At 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, David Farrell and HP Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer Jon Hoak will explore how public companies can build—and rebuid—their compliance programs and departments, focusing on lessons they've learned for establishing an office of compliance, getting buy-in from management, and establishing a culture of compliance throughout a global organization.
Prior to their 5:30 p.m. session, Farrell and Hoak will co-lead a small-group conversation in which compliance chiefs can compare and contrast their programs (limited to 24 compliance executives).

David Farrell joined Yahoo! in June 2007 as the company’s first Chief Compliance Officer and is responsible for developing and leading Yahoo!'s Ethics and Compliance Organization. His responsibilities include: advising executive management and the Board of Directors regarding business conduct and corporate compliance issues; promoting global awareness and consistent enforcement of Yahoo!'s business conduct policies; establishing resources for employees to identify, report and resolve business conduct issues; and, working with management to coordinate Yahoo!'s global corporate compliance initiatives.
Prior to joining Yahoo!, Farrell's professional experience included working in a number of senior legal and compliance positions at Sun Microsystems, Inc., where he created and led Sun’s corporate compliance and business conduct program as Sun’s first Chief Compliance Officer. Farrell's positions at Sun included: Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, Legal Operations and Corporate Compliance; General Counsel, Microelectronics; Regional Counsel, East Coast and Canada; Corporate Counsel for Corporate Governance and Securities Compliance; and, Sales and Marketing Counsel.
Prior to Sun, Farrell served as Corporate Counsel at Hewlett-Packard Company, where he supported HP's sales and marketing operations and several product groups. Prior to HP, Farrell served as a U.S. Navy Lieutenant and Judge Advocate in Japan and San Francisco.
